چکیده

We derive the closed-form restricted maximum likelihood estimator and Kenward-Roger's variance estimator for fixed effects in the mixed effects model for repeated measures (MMRM) when the missing data pattern is monotone. As an important application of the analytic result, we present the formula for calculating the power of treatment comparison using the Wald t-test with the Kenward-Roger adjusted variance estimate in MMRM. It allows adjustment for baseline covariates without the need to specify the covariate distribution in randomized trials. A simple two-step procedure is proposed to determine the sample size needed to achieve the targeted power. The proposed method performs well for both normal and moderately non-normal data even in small samples (n=20) in simulations. An antidepressant trial is analyzed for illustrative purposes. Point Estimators of Heritability Based on Confidence Intervals: a Closed-form Approximation to the Reml Estimator

95 Estimating heritability, the proportion of variation in phenotypic values due to (additive) genetic effects, is an important subject matter to plant and animal breeders alike. In most applications there is not an analytic expression for the restricted maximum likelihood (REML) estimator of heritability since it is obtained via an iterative procedure. The focus of this paper is to find a clos...

Linear Increments with Non‐monotone Missing Data and Measurement Error

Linear increments (LI) are used to analyse repeated outcome data with missing values. Previously, two LI methods have been proposed, one allowing non-monotone missingness but not independent measurement error and one allowing independent measurement error but only monotone missingness. In both, it was suggested that the expected increment could depend on current outcome. We show that LI can all...

A COMPARATIVE SIMULATION STUDY OF ROBUST ESTIMATORS OF STANDARD ERRORS Natalie Johnson Department of Statistics Statistics Master of Science The estimation of standard errors is essential to statistical inference. On using generalized Cramér-Rao inequality to REML estimation in linear models

The main aim of considerations in the problem of estimation of variance components σ 1 and σ 2 2 by using the ML-method and REML-method in normal mixed linear model N{Y, E(Y ) = Xβ, Cov(Y ) = σ 1V + σ 2In} was concerned in the examination of theirs efficiency. It is particularly important when an explicit form of these estimators is unknown and we search for the solutions of the likelihood equa...

On Measuring Uncertainty of Small Area Estimators with Higher Order Accuracy

The empirical best linear unbiased predictor (EBLUP) or the empirical Bayes estimator (EB) in the linear mixed model is recognized useful for the small area estimation, because it can increase the estimation precision by using the information from the related areas. Two of the measures of uncertainty of EBLUP is the estimation of the mean squared error (MSE) and the confidence interval, which h...
